I saw this movie on friday knowing how badly it was being received. Because I will see anything with Kate in it.

The movie is pretty run of the mill, unoriginal, and had poor action scenes. But Kate was awesome.

rottentomatoes currently has it at a 2% rating. Not that bad

many critics are giving it an F... not that bad.

I would say it's a C

Kate and where the movie takes place make up for all the bad stuff.

Thanks for the info Terrapin. I had a feeling it wasn't quite as ghastly as the reviews would have you believe.

Although it's improved to an almighty 8% on rottentomatoes.com

Let us not forget Underworld 2 was 14%, Van Helsing 22%, Underworld 29% on RT, so there is hope for this one. Vacancy surprisingly was 55%. And I thought Vacancy was bull****.

Yeah, Kate has had a lot of hits and misses in her career, from a critical perspective. But that doesn't make her any different than most actors. The problem is she didn't need a critical and financial flop at this point in her career, with all the bad luck she's had with Nothing But the Truth, Snow Angels, and Winged Creatures.

Indeed reviews for Underworld didn't stop me from loving the underworld films.

But Van Helsing was a huge pile of garbage.

and Vacancy I liked because Kate wrecks the bad guys 8)

It's funny i've read a few reviews on it and while they say the film isn't great it's the director getting most flack. They seem to agree that the only thing that makes it at all bearable is Kate's acting so it's not all bad for her.
Life is a mystery for me.

Oh there's no doubt that Dominic Sena deserves most of the blame. Horrible director who didn't even bother to show up to the film premiere. I hope he had a good excuse. I also think the two sets of brothers who wrote the screenplay deserve a great deal of blame. That's 4 screenwriters, none of who are any good judging by their past output. Anytime you have that many screenwriters, you're asking for trouble.

This is really sad. I have high hopes for the movie. I live in KL, Malaysia and Whiteout is expected to be shown here in October. I am keeping my fingers cross that it will be shown in the cinemas. I am still going to watch it for Kate's sake.

Well I've seen it and it wasn't that bad!
I thought it was a bit disgusting with all the bodies and injuries etc but I'm a comedy person, I just don't like Whiteout-type films in general. This one got me nervous and a bit scared so I guess it worked. The action scenes were slow and with the snow you can't see much but that's the problem of the setting.
Anyway Kate was as good as can be in such a role and maybe it's because I don't watch action thrillers much but I don't see why the critics were so disappointed and the people don't go see it... it's all I would expect from such a film... I actually found it pretty good.

I finally saw it and my sentiments are pretty much in line with Miss P. It was okay, with a few really good moments. Nowhere near the abomination critics seem to be claiming it is.

Although I must say, Dominic Sena should be kicked in the nuts. That underwear and shower scene was even more gratuitous and unnecessary than I thought it would be. It was nothing more than a case of him wanting to get his rocks off by seeing Kate in her underwear and topless, and the studio trying to sell the film completely on Kate's sexuality. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. But it was about the most irrelevant and unneeded scene I've ever witnessed in a film.

I thought that too! When it happened I was like -WHAT? There was absolutely no point. Although I found it funny how many layers of clothes she had on
But as for marketing the film on Kate's sexuality I guess it worked; there were 4 of us in the room a first and one guy left right after the shower scene.
